The manual transition spacing test

This test shows how adjusting silence gaps changes the flow of your album. It takes ten minutes and requires two adjacent tracks with different tempos.

1 Import the final masters of both tracks into your DAW.
2 Place the second track immediately after the first, leaving a static two-second gap of silence.
3 Listen to the transition, focusing on the change in tempo and energy.
4 Adjust the gap. If the first song ends with a long reverb tail, overlap the start of the second song with the tail, or extend the silence to four seconds to let the energy clear.
5 Play the transition again.
